hey Called Her a Homewrecker — But Kelly Clarkson’s One Statement About Brittney Marie Jones Left Critics Speechless

In the glittering yet unforgiving world of celebrity, where personal lives are dissected under the relentless glare of public scrutiny, few figures have embodied true nobility as profoundly as Kelly Clarkson. The inaugural American Idol winner, powerhouse vocalist, and Emmy-winning talk show host has weathered fame’s storms with humor, authenticity, and grit. But her most recent act of grace came not in a recording studio or on a television set — it came in defense of another woman, one many had branded the villain in her story.

A Tragedy and a Firestorm

The controversy began in the wake of tragedy. Brandon Blackstock, Clarkson’s ex-husband, passed away on August 7, 2025, after a three-year battle with melanoma. His obituary included intimate details about his life post-divorce, noting a three-year relationship with Brittney Marie Jones — described as his “beautiful and loving partner in life and business.” Jones, a former production assistant for Clarkson, had moved to Montana to help Blackstock build ventures including a livestock auction and rodeo company soon after Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020.

Those details lit a match on social media. Critics quickly branded Jones as a “third wheel,” a “witch,” and a “homewrecker” — accusing her of destroying Clarkson’s marriage. In the court of public opinion, nuance was nowhere to be found. Few paused to consider the complexities of timing, relationships, or the fact that Clarkson’s divorce wasn’t finalized until 2022.

Clarkson’s Unexpected Intervention

In the face of the online vitriol, Clarkson could have chosen silence. She could have let the narrative run its course — perhaps even found private vindication in watching a perceived rival take heat. Instead, she did the opposite.

Clarkson publicly urged critics to stop attacking Jones, calling for the harassment to end and for the grieving family to be left alone. It was a move rooted not in obligation, but in empathy — an acknowledgment that loss and mourning should unite rather than divide.

This was no small gesture. Clarkson’s split from Blackstock had been bruising, marked by legal battles over custody of their two children, River and Remington, and disputes over finances. The revelation of Blackstock’s relationship with Jones could have easily reopened old wounds. Yet, Clarkson chose forgiveness over resentment, prioritizing compassion above personal grievance.

A Portrait of Integrity

Clarkson’s statement carried weight because it reflected her long-standing values. On The Kelly Clarkson Show, she has built a platform that celebrates vulnerability, empathy, and honesty — often sharing her own struggles with body image, mental health, and divorce to connect with guests and viewers alike.

By defending Jones, Clarkson extended that compassion to someone who could have been cast as an enemy. She demonstrated integrity in a cultural moment when public shaming often drowns out reason, and she modeled accountability in the age of anonymous online outrage.

Leadership in Loss

Those close to Clarkson say Blackstock’s passing was devastating, particularly for her children. Even before his death, she had ensured the kids spent meaningful time with their father during his illness. In the midst of her own grief, she still found the capacity to protect others — using her platform to dampen the flames of cruelty rather than stoke them.

In this, Clarkson showed that resilience is not just about surviving hardship, but about leading with humanity in its wake.

Kelly Clarkson’s defense of Brittney Marie Jones may not change the minds of every critic, but it did something far more meaningful: it reminded us that compassion is strongest when extended to those we have every reason to withhold it from. In choosing kindness over bitterness, Clarkson didn’t just silence the “homewrecker” chorus — she set an example for grace under pressure that transcends celebrity.

Brandon Blackstock Was Dating Kelly Clarkson’s ‘Beautiful & Loving’ Former Assistant Before His Death

Kelly Clarkson‘s late ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, was in a relationship with her former assistant before his death.

An obituary for the 48-year-old talent manager, who died on August 7 after a battle with skin cancer, revealed the identity of his partner, Brittney Marie Jones, describing her as “his beautiful and loving partner in life and business.”

A December 2024 report from The Sun, described Jones as a “former assistant” to Clarkson while she was being managed by her then-husband. Blackstock and Clarkson, 43, were married from 2013 until 2020, during which time he served as her talent manager.

According to The Sun, Jones described her work for Clarkson in her LinkedIn profile, which states, “I successfully assistant managed day to day for artist, Kelly Clarkson under manager, Brandon Blackstock in Los Angeles for music and television.”

“After a change in management for Ms. Clarkson I transitioned to Executive Assistant for Mr. Blackstock’s cattle operation in Montana where I currently run the office and administration work,” the profile continues. “I also currently fulfill personal assistant duties for Mr. Blackstock.”

Per Blackstock’s obituary, he and Jones worked together to found Headwaters Livestock Auction and The Valley View Rodeo, both of which were founded in 2023. It’s unclear when Jones and Blackstock started dating.

Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock, with whom she shares two children, in June 2020. In their two-year divorce battle, the two fought over ownership of their $10 million Montana ranch, which was ultimately awarded to the singer. Blackstock was found to have a 5.12% ownership but was ordered to move out. He later purchased another ranch in Butte, Montana, per Us Weekly.

Blackstock’s death was revealed in an August 7 statement from his family. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” read the statement. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.”

The news came the day after Clarkson revealed his illness while announcing that she was postponing her Las Vegas residency to be at home with her children.

“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” her statement read. “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
