PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – Multiple people were injured in a seven-car crash on I-5 Tuesday afternoon, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVFR) said.

Around 4 p.m., TVFR was called to the Interstate 5 northbound Nyberg Street off-ramp with initial reports that one car was on its top and the driver was trapped.When Tualatin police got to the scene, they reported to firefighters that multiple cars were involved and a second person was trapped in a car on its side.

TVFR helped get the two people trapped in separate cars out by stabilizing the cars with a system of struts and shoring devices. Both people were in critical condition and were taken to hospitals.

The people in four other cars had minor injuries but did not need to be taken to the hospital.

The Oregon State Police will be investigating the cause of the crash

Deputy Police Officer Rob Hill, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) commander in Manitoba, confirmed the devastating toll.

“At least 15 individuals were pronounced dead as a result of the collision,” he stated during a press briefing.

The crash has been described as one of the deadliest traffic incidents in Manitoba’s history.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, and survivors of the collision were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims, and the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
