The incident took place in the northwestern region of Xinjiang at a tourist location on Wednesday, Aug. 6, according to Chinese media outlets Global Times and the Xinhua News Agency.

 

Twenty-nine people were on the bridge at 6:18 p.m. local time on Wednesday when the cables broke in the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Xinhua reported.

 

The Jiangjun Bridge then tilted to one side and people fell off, according to Global Times.

While two people were seriously injured, the others were being treated for minor injuries, according to Xinhua.

A tourist said that he saw people fall into the river and onto rocks during the incident, with some people being stuck on the bridge, according to Global Times.
